Sensei Stavros Stavrianidis 5th Dan, was born in Greece in 1956.
He came in touch with martial arts for the first time in the age of 14.
The method that satisfied his inner quests the most was Karate-do Shotokai. He met this method and approached it later on through Sensei Alan Stoll, who taught at Solingen (Germany).
Through Stoll, he got acquainted with Sensei Schneider A. William. Sensei Schneider basically opened the door to the traditional martial arts and at the same time cleared the way to Japan.
At the age of 18 he already has spent 4 months sitting at the feet of Master Usami Tadao, head of the history of Shotokai Tokyu Karate Dojo. Master Usami and therefore the whole group of his high rank students, out of which Sensei Kyoshi Akutsu was a prominent figure, influenced radically the evolution of his technique.
The topmost landmark however in his course, was his meeting with Master Egami Shigeru, a great teacher of the 20th century, who stood up not only for his supreme technical ability, but especially for his moral and human approach to the art of self-defence.
During his stay in Tokyo, he got trained also on Shintomusuryu Jo-Jutsu (the art of the small pole) at the Dojo of Master Shimizu and at the Hojo, Ken’s school, (Japanese sword) at the Dojo of Master Omori.
These two great Masters are considered to be the major authorities in their arts.
In September 1974, he successfully passed his exams for the black belt 1st Dan, by Μaster Shigeru Egami.
When he returned from Japan, he got admitted as an enclosed student (uchidetsi) at the dojo (school) of Sensei Schneider A. William, at Nancy in France.
The summer of 1975 at the age of 19, he returns to Greece and founds at Katerini his first Dojo, which he names Karate Club “BUDOKAN”, a pioneer in all Northern Greece.
In 1981 he establishes at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki the first academic Karate Department of Thessaloniki.
During his military servicehe is officially appointed trainer in self-defence issues in the 3rd division of special forces, which has its headquarters in Thessaloniki. (1976-1978)
In 1993 along with Sensei Schneider, they put the foundation for the creation of Master Egami’s teaching.
Three years later they establish together with Sensei Schneider, Akser (Association Karate do Shotokai Egamiryu) which had primarily two member states -France and Greece- with Sensei Schneider as chairman and as chief trainer Sensei Stavrianidis.
For the first time worldwide the term Egamiryu was used, something that was decided upon after continuous discussions and a common decision by both Sensei Schneider and Sensei Stavrianidis. This innovative decision was taken in order to pay paramount tribute, to the work and deportment of the great Master.
Having the authority of chief trainer of Akser International, he shouldered the responsibility of educating all trainers through scheduled seminars. In 2002 he produced, in collaboration with Sensei Schneider, a documentary film, aiming at documenting and rendering in an effusive style, the spirit and the practical training of Master Egami’s art.
In 2005 he withdraws from Akser and creates a new organization under the name of Serku (Shotokai Egami Ryu Karate Union) continuing thus with consistency and passion to project the principles of Master Egami’s teachings.
Serku is represented today in Greece, Morocco, Germany, Austria and France.
In August 2004 Sensei Stavrianidis got elected chairman of the Central and Northern Greece Karate Union and got appointed at the same time member of the examination board in the Greek Karate Federation.
During his course as a trainer, he has designated numerous black belts. His students nowadays are taking action in many countries all over the world.
Sensei Stavrianidis Stavros gave and is still giving his own personal touch in the technique and the way showed by Master Egami, hence continuing to explore the technique and create new methodologies in the training.
For Sensei Stavrianidis, quintessence of the unarmed self-defence lies in the elevation of moral and cultural values of this art. A type of art, whoseroots are lost in the depths of centuries and through which the earth's nations have tried to bridge their differentiality more than to impose their will.
Such path to PEACE is recommended by the contemporary great masters, who are fully aware of the sanctity of every human's right to self-defend.
